Two Are Better Than One
“Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—”
On Friday we will have a blog about any topic or something on our heart. At this moment my mind is on marriage. One of the regulars at our Wednesday feeding at Livingston and Fletcher, Arturo, came in with his fiancé wanting to get married. We will have their wedding soon. I have known him and prayed for him for many, many years. Lately he comes and brings some food back for his girlfriend. The passage above can be used for friendship as well as marriage and it explains the benefits of not being alone. I like it for showing the benefits of marriage.
Marriage is one of the greatest blessings you can have in life. I can say that from personal experience and my 22 years with my wife Karen. Marriage helps you see others in a way that looks beyond yourself. Marriage does change you and for the better. There are several things about society today that worry me, but one that is foremost is the reluctance of people to get married. Fewer and fewer people are getting married now. Maybe it is the self focus we as a society have today. Maybe some are afraid of divorce. Marriage is an incredible blessing of God that should not be feared but embraced. “Two are better than one.”
