Red Letter Day 25: The Body is Weak
2015 Lent Blog
Saturday March 14
The body is weak. I thought of those words this morning as I ran the Gate River Run in Jacksonville. I have run this race the last three years and it is one of the favorite races I have ever run. It is a 15 K (9.3 miles) that starts next to the Jacksonville Jaguar stadium. You start and run to downtown and then cross a bridge and meander through neighborhoods. There are an amazing amount of spectators but the finally is a large bridge that takes you up in the second to the last mile. I thought of this verse as I was running this morning. My Spirit as willing but I had a hard time pushing the body on that uphill climb. The joy of reaching the top of that hill, is knowing the last mile is downhill and you are looking down into the football stadium in the distance.
We all have many parts of ourselves. In fact sometimes scriptures talks about body, soul, and spirit. When we are tired the body says stop, but our mind or our spirit says keep going. Our souls are the part of us that communicates and focuses on God. It sees things by faith that the eyes do not see. The soul looks into the future and hears the words of Jesus and sees incredible things.
