Red Letter Day 17: I Am the Light of the World
2015 Lent Blog
Friday March 6
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
This is another of the “I am” passage of scripture and here Jesus states that he is the Light of the World. In context the disciples saw a man born blind and they thought they knew a reason for this, either his parents sinned or he did. Jesus answered neither sinned to bring about this illness but it happened so that God’s work might be displayed in Him. Have you ever seen a bad situation and thought this is an opportunity to bring the light of Jesus to others? Much of the world is dark, and what is darkness? It is nothing but the absence of light. Jesus used every opportunity to bring light to this world going and helping wherever he was needed.
At chapel this week the kids asked to sing “This Little light of Mine.” That is a favorite old kids song that reminds us to be like Jesus. Sharing his light and helping wherever we are able. Not blaming others for their problems, but seeing every bad situation as an opportunity to help. That is how we share the light of Jesus, the Light of the world.
