Praying with Jesus: Listen
This passage from Revelation says a lot about prayer. This is the section the section of that book where Jesus speaks to seven different churches. This passage is to the church in Laodicea.
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20)
Jesus is the one knocking and standing at the door. Jesus wants us to open the door in prayer and welcome Him into our hearts and lives every day. One of the problems with our modern world is that we are so busy and have so many distractions that all too often we never hear Jesus knocking and calling our names. Prayer is meant to be a moment when you stop with all of the busyness and the sounds of the world and listen to the voice of Jesus.
Dear Lord, I open the door every time I bow my head in prayer. Feed my soul with words that bring life, even life abundantly. Help me to hear Your voice and the knocking you make to call me to speak with you every day. Amen.
