My Stronghold and My Refuge
“My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.”
-2 Samuel 22:3-4
Life can be difficult. There are days where we just feel like we are being beaten up left and right. The kids throw a fit. The big project at work falls apart and your boss is riding your back. A client gets upset and goes on complaining for 20 minutes. The engine light comes on in the car. And your spouse seems mad about something.
The world offers us all kinds of “fixes”, be it alcohol, TV, drugs, pornography, pop psychology, or just taking off and leaving it all behind. But these aren’t true fixes. They are temporary escapes that usually just make things worse in the end. So, where do we turn?
How wonderful that we have a God who wants us to come to Him and who answers when we call. He is our rock and our salvation. We can take refuge in Him. He will save you. He will strengthen you and give you peace. Not peace like the world gives in temporary escapes, but true peace. Peace in the face of the storm. Peace knowing that God is with you and will not leave you. Peace knowing that He will carry you through, though it be difficult. Peace that assures you of your salvation in Christ Jesus even in the face of death.
Call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised. You are saved from your enemies!
Sometimes life gets overwhelming. I feel tired and beaten up. Please come to my aid. Please strengthen me and give me peace. Help me to see the foolishness of the fixes the world offers and remind me that You are there with me and that You are my salvation.
