Devotion – September 23, 2015 – He Is Near To Us
Back a few years ago when my daughter was 4, she first started to learn hide and seek. Being 4 she wasn’t really very good at the game, but we had a great time playing. I quickly found that the real fun in the game was to be found. So, I would “hide” in pretty obvious places and I’d even make sounds so she could find me. She would get the biggest smile when she found me.
In today’s verse Paul is speaking to the people in Athens. There were lots of idols all around him, including one idol to “an unknown God”. Paul used this as an opportunity to share the Good News. He told them he knew the God they didn’t know, who is the creator of all things and in whom “we live and move and have our being.” And this God, the one true God, wanted them to find Him…and He wants us to find Him, too.
What good news! The God who created all things is not far from each one of us. In fact, He is a God who seeks us and makes us able to seek Him. When we seek Him, He promises we will find Him because the real joy, for both God and us, is to find Him.
You do not want to be an unknown God, but rather to know us and to be known by us. Thank You for being near to us and making Yourself known to us.
