Devotion – October 28, 2015 – Destroying the Devil's Work
When you believe in Jesus you become a new creation. The old sinful self is no longer in control. You are now of Christ with His Spirit living in you. So, our lives change. It’s important to note that we are changed because we have been saved and made the children of God. It’s not that we change to become the children of God. God is the one who loves us, calls us to faith, frees us from sin and the devil, and transforms us.
We are no longer slaves to sin and the devil. Jesus has come to destroy the devil’s work. So, we should not and cannot continue in a life of sin. This is not to say that we will never sin. The old self clings to us so that we are at the same time sinner and saint; but there is a difference between sinning and living a life of sin. Sin no longer has a hold on you and God works in you to transform you so that you no longer desire the desires of the sinful flesh. Instead, the Holy Spirit bears His fruit in you so that you become more like Christ.
Thank You for loving us and calling us Your children. Thank You that You did not require us to change to become worthy because we would never become worthy. Instead You made us worthy in Christ by Your grace and have freed us from sin and power of the devil so that we can be free to resist sin and serve You. Where we struggle with recurring sins, please transform us so that we would not give in to that temptation. Instead, help us to live our lives serving You as our response for the love you have showered on us.
