Devotion – August 16, 2015 – Use Your Freedom to Serve
You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
What wonderful news! In Christ you are free. Free from sin. Free from death. Free to do what is good and right. Before you were a slave to sin, unable to fight off your sinful desires, but now you are freed and made alive through faith in Christ.
Your salvation is not just a get out of hell free card. It’s so much more. You are not only saved, but set free and enabled to love and serve others as Christ has loved and served you. Your service does not free you. Jesus already did that. Your service is the response to what Jesus has already done. You not only have the great gift of salvation, but you have been freed to love and serve others.
What wonderful opportunity to serve does God have in store for you today?!
Thank you for freeing me and enabling me to love as you love and serve others and you came to serve. Help me this and each day to look for those opportunities to love and serve others that they may be pointed to you and may be freed in Christ as well.
