Forty Days of Prayer – Day 10

What do you want Jesus to do for you? I can hear Jesus asking you that question. Sometimes the answer may be easy, but sometimes not. Jesus asked this question to someone who you may say why ask that question. He is blind of course he wants to see. Hear Jesus as a blind man named Bartimeus calls to Jesus.

“What do you want me to do for you?’ Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi I want to see.” “Go,” Jesus said, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road. (Mark 10: 51-52)

What do you want me to do for you? Today, Jesus asks you that question. The strange thing is that Jesus knows the answer to that question better than we ourselves know the answer. He asked that question to the blind man so that he would make a specific request. He said “Rabbi, I want to see.” Jesus then gave him sight. What is powerful is that Jesus encouraged a specific prayer request. Jesus does the same for all of us today. In my life when I have been persistent and specific in prayer God has always answered my prayer. It does not happen immediately and not always in the way that I have asked, quite often even better than I ever imagined. The great thing about specific prayers is that you see them answered. God answers prayers.

I remember a sermon, by I think Tony Campolo, who told of one day he was listening to a Christian radio station. A prayer was made for a man Joe to come back home to 835 Center Street. He thought how foolish, why mention the address in the prayer, because God knows all of the specifics. Later that day he met a depressed man named Joe. He had made a mess of his life and wanted to just disappear. After speaking for a while about grace and new starts he said maybe I should take you home. In fact I know where you live and I can bring you there. Prayer is emptying your heart to God and telling Him what you need and want. Be specific and see God answer your prayers.

In Christ’s Service, Pastor Dave

Dear Lord, thank you for answering prayer. Help me pray with purpose. Help me pray for people, for relationships that are broken. Help me pray for specific healing in every area of life, with the power and promise that Jesus gives in His name. Amen.
