Forty Days of Prayer – Day 12
This morning I talked in church about the Spirit helping us when we pray. In fact sometimes it is good if we pray in silence and the Spirit then speaks in groans that words cannot express. This is very powerful and the Spirit speaks to our heart in profound ways. Yet sometimes I like praying with a list. Hear this passage from Paul as he talks about all kinds of prayers for the saints, the people of God.
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:18)
There are many ways to pray. I think of this passage when I do one type of prayer. Every so often I will pray through the church directory. This is a listing of all of the families in the church with names addresses and phone numbers. This list will also include people who have visited the church and are not members. It often includes many people who have moved away and who I have not seen for a while. When I do this, it now takes a few days to pray through the directory. When the church first started I could pray through the directory in a single time of prayer.
Now there are may more people but each and every time I do this it helps me in many ways. Jesus asks us to pray for each other and carry each others burdens. A blessing that I know I have is the many people who pray for me all of the time.
In Christ’s Service, Pastor Dave
Lord, teach me all kinds of ways to pray. Teach me to pray in silence letting the Spirit speaks with groans that words cannot express. Help me to pray for all those that I know. Help me one day to pray for all of my relatives. Remind me another day to pray for all of my coworkers. Help me another day to pray for all of the youth and children in my life. Lord, teach me new ways to pray and to join all of the saints in heaven around Your glorious throne. Amen.
