Red Letter Day 45: I Am Thirsty
2015 Lent Blog
Friday April 3
This saying is one of the seven times we have scriptural accounts of Jesus speaking from the cross. This is the only one of the seven where Jesus speaks about himself. I love it because it reminds me again of the true humanity that Jesus has being a person like us. After loosing all of the blood a severe thirst would be consuming him. He suffers and feels just as we do and so I know he understands.
I remember reading about an account of the moon landing of Apollo 11 in July of 1969. President Nixon said, “man walking on the moon is the greatest event in human history.” Billy Graham corrected him and said, “God walking on the earth is the greatest event in human history.” The most significant time of Jesus’ life and ministry happened this weekend, with his death and resurrection. He is both the Son of God and creator of all things, and a thirsty beaten and bruised friend who gave his life for me.
