Red Letter Day 39: Just One in a Crowd
2015 Lent Blog
Saturday March 28
Jesus spoke these words to a woman who had a bleeding problem. No one could cure her and she thought if only I could touch Jesus’ robe I will be cured. Jesus was walking through a big crowd and suddenly he stopped and asked who touched me?
Peter said, Master there is a crowd and they are pressing all against you. But Jesus, who knows all things, knew this woman had touched him in faith to be healed. So he stopped everything for this woman to speak up. She fell at his feet and spoke. She said at the moment she touched him, she felt healed.
What I love about this passage is it reminds me that every time we have issues and problems, Jesus already knows about them. We sometimes think that Jesus is too busy with crowds of people and he cannot take time to deal with me, but this passage reminds me that he can. Jesus speaks directly to her and stops everything to make sure she knows he is there and is able to help.
All three messages he gives in this verse bring a sense of love and comfort. First he calls her daughter to remind her that she is a child of God. Secondly, he tells what faith does, it brings healing. Faith is holding onto the promises and blessings of God as we find them in Jesus. Finally he says go in peace because that is what God wants us to have after every time we speak and listen to him.
