Praying With Jesus
Part of a passage I have been working on memorizing a lot lately has this verse:
For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)
Part of praying with Jesus is having the confidence to pray with the confidence and boldness that Jesus prayed. This enables one to pray knowing you are going to be heard and have confidence in God’s eternal love. Nothing can deter you from knowing that in your heart.
Last night at the Ash Wednesday service I told the story about a boy of 11 years old. He was standing at the side of a busy street and looking and waiting. An older man approached him concerned and asked what he was doing? I am waiting for the bus, he replied. The man informed him that he had to walk down to the bus station a block down the street or he would not get picked up. The boy replied the bus will stop. The man thinking the kid was a bit too big for his britches and stood in waiting as he saw the bus driving down the street. To his surprise, the bus made a perfect stop in front of the boy. The doors opened and the boy jumped on the bus and shouted Dad. Things happen when you have connections. Because of Jesus, you have connections with God the father.
Abba Father, thank you for enabling me to pray with the same confidence as Jesus your eternal Son. Teach me to pray as Jesus prayed with boldness for others and all things.
