Praying with Jesus: Praying in the Spirit

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. – Ephesians 6:183

I love this verse. It reminds me that prayer can have many forms and methods. Prayer happens wherever we may be in life. What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? One way I try to do this is to be quiet and not say a thing in prayer for a while. As Psalm 46 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” God will then direct your prayers to the people and the issues that Jesus is praying about also. That is praying in the Spirit.

Lord, remind me I can be quiet in prayer. Prayer can be powerful just abiding in your presence. In my absence of words your glory shines bright when my heart and soul is turned to you in prayer. Help me to pray whenever I see the wonder of your creation in a sunset, a newborn child, or even my face in the mirror. Amen
