Mom, The Image Of Christ?
“No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” – 1 John 4:12
This past Sunday was Mother’s Day. During our services this week, Pastor Dave talked about Jesus praying for us and said how, in much the same way, mothers pray for us and our well being as well. In this way, our mothers are acting like Christ.
In the passage above from 1 John chapter 4, the Scriptures talk about how none of us have actually seen God. However, God is not altogether invisible to us. He shows Himself through the love of others. Martin Luther described how God deal with us as His wearing masks. God provides for us, but He does so through nature and farmers and good jobs, etc. God creates and sustains life, but often does so through natural means. We don’t see Him, but He is doing it none-the-less.
So, it is with a mother’s love. We may not see God, but He lives in our mothers (and the rest of us) and His love is made complete in us. He loved us by sending His Son to die for us. He continues to love us by His grace, mercy, and provision. God is love. He often shows us His love through others, especially through moms, who sacrifice regularly for their children and care for their children with an undying love. In that way, mothers show us the image of Christ.
Thank you for Moms and the love they have shown us. We know all love comes from You, the source of all love.
