40 Days of Prayer and Service

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place.  When he finished one of his disciples said to him.  Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.   (Luke 11:1)

Forty days is a sacred amount of time in the scriptures.  Jesus fasted and prayed in the wilderness for 40 days before starting his ministry.  Moses was up on Mt. Sinai for 40 day when given the two tablets with the 10 commandments.  Lent is a period of reflection and growth that has been observed through most of the history of the Church.  This year we are going to work to pray more and serve others more.  Prayer can be taught, as Jesus gave us the Lord’s Prayer, but even more it is taught with incorporating prayer into our daily life.

In the passage above Jesus had a certain place to pray.  Think about your day.  Can you find a certain place to pray yourself?   It is best if it a place without interruptions, a place that is available on most days.  It may be wise to think about several places where prayer becomes natural and frequent.

Lord Jesus, teach us to pray this season.  Help feed our souls with the joy of your presence and your gracious gifts.  Amen.

In Christ’s Service, Pastor Dave
