Sometimes the words and view of scripture do not always match up with the way we think and prioritize life. I thought of that reading this verse from 3 John today.
Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.(3 John 1:2-4)
I think I remember reading a provocative question to ask someone, “How is your eternal soul?” Here in this passage, the apostle John knows his friend’s soul is getting along well. The soul is the part of us that Jesus loves. It is the part of us that will be in heaven when we get new bodies. Scripture talks of us as being souls with bodies not bodies with souls. The valuable part of us is the soul that resides within.
This is important when we tragedy in our health and when we face death. Our souls are made well by the grace and love of Jesus. That is a reality that lasts forever. I pray for your good health but rejoice that your souls live with the eternal blessings and love of Jesus.
