Just Between You and God – New Testament Thursday
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.”
Revelation was initially written to seven churches that John cared for in present day Turkey. All these churches were about a days walk apart and this was probably the third in the circuit. A week ago I did the first in the loop Ephesus, where the promise was made to eat from the tree of life. I remember visiting Pergamum and a fact that stuck out was the librarian there came up with the idea of sewing together single page parchments and in turn making books. Before this longer works were on scrolls. This particular blessing is getting to taste manna, and a new name only between you and Jesus.
Do you have any names that are particular to a single person? My wife and I do and I think I will keep those to myself. There are some things that are meant to be very personal and not subject to public information even in this tell all age. It shows the depths of a personal relationship that is unique and very special. Jesus is going to give you a name that only you and he know. This is one more example of the powerful ways that Jesus relates to each and every one of us. What will your special name be with Jesus? He knows everything about.
