Forty Days of Prayer March 24

I want to wish everyone a joyous Palm Sunday.  I remember from doing some research a few years ago that there are only two places that Palm braches are mentioned in the Bible.  First is in the Palm Sunday bible accounts of Jesus entering Jerusalem on the beginning of Holy Week. Then the other passage is a future view of heaven from Revelation chapter 7.

After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:9-10)

As a Florida transplant I am first of all glad to hear there are Palm branches in heaven because that means heaven is a warmer tropical climate.  This passage immediately follows the verses that talk about 12,000 from each of the twelve tribes of Israel and then a multitude that no one could count from heaven.  Some have used only the earlier verses to say there might be only 144,000 in heaven, but this passage states it is a multitude that no one can count.  Prayer can be defined as talking to God in one way or another.  Here in heaven the multitude was standing before God and the Lamb, who is Jesus, and singing or shouting out.  In heaven prayer will be face to face.  I look forward to that day but when we pray now God wants us to see Him and know Him.  That is why He came into this world.

This is the 40th of these blogs in this season of Lent.  Most know Lent to be a period of 40 days from Ash Wednesday up to Easter.  We are not at Easter yet because I have sent blogs every day since Ash Wednesday including Sundays.  In the numbering of the 40 days of Lent, those days do not include the Sundays in the season of Lent, of which there are 6.  That was meant for those who were doing some sort of sacrificial action for Lent. Sundays were always days of rest and celebration, and were therefore not included in any type of fasting, or sacrificial action.  I will continue this daily prayer blog during this Holy Week.  And ponder what Jesus and said during this most important of all weeks.

In Christ’s Service, Pastor Dave

Dear Lord, as I pray help me to see Your face in Your Son Jesus.  May I pray as if I am standing in Your presence until the day that I join that multitude in heaven that no one can count. Amen.
