Devotion – October 24, 2015 – Beer is a Brawler
It is the season of Oktoberfest, known for it’s brats and beer. Soon to follow is the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas, a season which also has been known to include an adult beverage from time to time. As we go through these seasons (and the rest of life) it’s wise to remember this proverb and keep ourselves in check.
This proverb isn’t saying that all drinking is wrong; but it is telling us to be careful because drinking, especially in excess, can lead to all kinds of problems. So, we would be wise to use a little self-control not only for ourselves, but for those around us who may be struggling with temptation.
You are the source of all wisdom. I ask that you give me wisdom to know when I can enjoy the freedoms you have given in Christ and when I should show restraint for the sake of my brothers and sisters in Christ.
