Devotion – November 14, 2015 – The Fragrance of Knowing Christ

2corinthians2_14Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.
—2 Corinthians 2:14

One of the things I love about mowing the lawn is the smell of a freshly cut lawn.  You can always tell when grass has just been cut.  One of the things my wife doesn’t love is when I cook fish.  That smell of fish always sticks around a lot longer than the meal.  Have you ever thought of what the smell of your life is?

When our lives are rife with anger and cutting words, our lives can give off a nasty stink that no one wants to be around.  In Christ, however, our lives take on a new smell.  Gone is the rotting smell of sin and death.  Christ has triumphed over those things and now His people in a triumphal procession.  We now have the sweet fragrance of knowing Christ and being saved and washed clean.  The fragrance spreads as we love others and tell others about Christ.

Dear Jesus,

I used to stink!  Thank you for washing me clean in the blood of the Lamb and giving me the sweet fragrance of knowing You.  I pray that everywhere I go the sweet fragrance of Your salvation would follow me and all those who I meet would be able to smell it.
