Devotion – June 22, 2015 – Teaching our Children

psalm34_11Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
—Psalm 34:11

One of the greatest blessings and greatest responsibilities for adults, especially parents, is to raise their children in the faith.  Even if you aren’t a parent, you can still bring Christ into the lives of the children you know.  In Psalm 34, the psalmist talks about teaching.  Teaching is one way we raise our children in the faith, but sharing Bible stories, teaching lessons from the Word and, most importantly, telling them about Jesus.

But teaching is just one way we raise our children in the faith.  Praying with them, going to church together, serving others together, and living out your faith in front of your children as an example are all ways that we do this.  We also do this by admitting our faults and our need for forgiveness in Christ and also demonstrating grace and forgiveness with our children.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for being such a wonderful Father, for providing for me, caring for me, and loving me as your child.  Help me to be an example for children and to share with them the good news of Jesus Christ.  Thank you for the blessing that children are. Please watch over them and protect them.  Please guard their hearts, give them faith, and keep them in that true faith throughout their lives.
