Devotion – August 7, 2015 – Listen to Him
It’s the mountain top experience of mountain top experiences. Peter, James, and John go with Jesus up to a high mountain. Jesus is transfigured, His face shining like the sun, and they are joined by Moses and Elijah. In the midst of all this, God the Father speaks. “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
Jesus said many things during His ministry; but above all other messages, was His message of salvation.
Jesus said to her [Mary], “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
This reminds me of part of the traditional Lutheran worship service sung right before the reading of the Gospel, also from the Gospel of John:
Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
So, listen to words of Jesus, the beloved Son of God, He has the words of eternal life. “The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”
How amazing would it have been to be on that mountain top. Help us to turn to Your Word and listen and believe. Lord to whom else shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
