Devotion – August 15, 2015 – Stand With One Another

2timothy1_16May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.
—2 Timothy 1:16

How great it is to have a faithful friend, one who stands by you through thick and thin.  We all go through struggles.  It may be sickness, job loss, or the loss of family member.  It may be harassment or even prison.  During these times the world can seem very dark.  But a friend in Christ can brighten your life by bringing you friendship and a Word from the Light of the World.

Do you have a friend who might need your support today?  Why not make the phone call or, better yet, take some time to visit with them in person?  In John 15:15 Jesus says, “I have called you friends.”  He is a friend that will “never leave nor forsake us.” (Deut 31:8)  We, too, can be a friend to others, refreshing them, not being ashamed of them in their struggles and not growing weary of it over time.

Dear Jesus,

You are a faithful friend, standing with us when times are good and when they are tough.  Even in death, you continue to stand with us.  Help us to stand with each other, to hold each other up when we are weak, refresh the weary, and bring the light of your Word into dark situations, especially when others are suffering for their faith in You.
