Devotion – August 14, 2015 – Be Refreshed Together
Sometimes church can be difficult. We want to sleep in, we don’t like how someone does something, the seats are uncomfortable, etc. And today, you can read articles on blogs, watch worship services online, or read your Bible on your iPad and all from the comfort of your own home. You don’t even have to change out of you pjs. So, why would we forgo the extra sleep, put on pants, and go to church?
God created us as social creatures. We were meant to be in relationship with Him and we are meant to be in relationship with each other. Jesus established the church so that we may walk together in our lives of faith, encouraging one another and building each other up as we go.
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
So, come together as the church with joy and be refreshed!
We know that You have opened up a new and living way by your blood. You have sprinkled our hearts clean from an evil conscience and washed our bodies in the pure waters of baptism. Thank you for also establishing Your church so we do not have to live this new living way on our own. Draw us together in joy that we may be refreshed.
