Praying With Jesus: Helping Those With The Least

Have you ever seen the face or felt the powerful presence of Jesus in something you have done? One place where that happens for me fairly regularly is at our homeless feeding.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’  “Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’  “The King will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:35-40)

I want to ask all of you to pray for the ministry we carry out each week with the homeless. I got a call yesterday from Metropolitan Ministries that the police are going to stop allowing churches to feed where we have been doing so for the past 9 years. We started helping people there on a dead end portion of Livingston behind just north of Fletcher. Since we started there three other churches have been feeding on differing nights of the week at the same site. We sort of have a chicken or the egg situation. We helped there because that was where the homeless lived and some are now blaming the homeless situation there because all of the churches are feeding them there.

The police are supposed to help find us another location and I ask that you pray for God’s will to be done. I understand the complex issues that surround the homeless and this specific situation, but God wants us to give testimony of who Jesus is by our lives and actions.

Lord, help us to see you in every action that we carry out in life. May our lives be a living testimony to the love and care you give us so that we may share our blessings with others.
