Happy New (Church) Year !

Well, Thanksgiving and Advent are already here and Christmas is just around the corner. Speaking of Advent, did you know that the season of Advent marks the beginning of the new year in the church calendar?  So, Happy New Year !

It’s been a while since I’ve added anything to the vicar blog, so just to catch up a bit, here’s some of what’s been going on with your vicars …

Kurt and I just completed another Specific Ministry Pastor class, SMP105 “Means of Grace”, where we studied Baptism, The Lord’s Supper and Absolution.  We will be starting SMP106 “Preaching I” next week.

The “new” Adult Bible Study that meets between the early and late services (10:15am – 10:45am) on Sunday is already ten weeks old. We are mostly through the book of Genesis (Chapters 1-33). We are taking a break from Genesis in December to take a look at the season of Advent for four Sundays (Dec. 1,8,15,22) and then we will look at “The Real St. Nick ” on December 29th.  We’ll return to the book of Genesis in January.

It’s been a busy year, and here we are at what is usually the busiest time of the year for many people.

Midweek Advent services, Journey to the Manger, Advent by Candlelight, decorating the church for the season, parties, shopping, travel, and so many other activities. It’s a busy time, but it’s also a time for waiting. Advent is not Christmas. It is a season of waiting, waiting for Jesus, the Son of God, to come to us.

Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.”

Revelation 3:20

Waiting for Christ’s birthday and His triumphant return;

Advent By Candlelight

Advent by Candlelight is an opportunity for women to set aside the hustle and bustle of holiday preparation and focus their minds and hearts on the birth of Christ.  Beautiful decorations and fellowship provide a delightful atmosphere for the ladies to enjoy music, a worship service or devotions by candlelight.

Women and girls ages 7 and up are invited to Join us on December 8th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.    If you would like more information or would like to volunteer to help please contact Melissa Steinbrueck at mms1223@gmail.com or call the church office at (813) 558-9343 x 16
